Lieutenant Commander Duke Gifford, the second in command aboard the American submarine, the USS Thunderfish, assumes command over the U-boat after the skipper is killed during a battle. Gifford tries to solve the problem he inherited with the torpedoes, as well as reconcile with his ex-wife when he is ashore.
