Instead of a working animal, a farmer buys a thoroughbred horse. His son, Albert, quickly befriends the horse and trains it, but when the harvest fails, the family is forced to sell the horse to the British Cavalry. The horse is soon sent to the front when World War I starts and Albert tries to follow it by enlisting but is rejected because of his young age.
