Robert Gould Shaw is known as the officer who lead the first all black  volunteer company that fought during the Civil War in the United States. The heroes that fought and their story was ignored by history for any years, mainly because of racism. The story speaks about the bravery of the men that fought in this company as well as the prejudice  they were faced with. This is intelligently told movie, much appreciated by the critics as well as the audience. One of the best civil war movies with all around incredible performances. Denzel Washington for his performances in this movie won an Oscar for best actor in supporting role.
