It is the year 2011, the year when first contact is made with the aliens. However, that is not the first contact that people hoped for. Aliens come to earth only to conquer. While all of the mega cities fall one by one, LA becomes the last stand for human kind. 

All in all nothing but a descent sci-fi war movie with few great special effects. The movie is not as bad as Battleship (2012), but in no case it can be compared with Spielberg`s World of the Worlds (2005).
