Alex is a teenager who lives in a trailer park with his mother and younger brother. He feels like he is forever stuck in that place and he finds escape in playing the Starfighter video game. When he beats the game he is approached by Centauri, a man who introduced himself as a person from the company that made the game. Before he knows, Alex finds himself in outer space and Centauri informs him that the game is only a test and a simulator for what is really going on in space and Alex is asked to use his skills to defend the galaxy from invasion.
