Sergeant York (1941)

This is the true story of a simple man drafted in WW1 to fight for his country even though that he claims he is a pacifist. However, when the shooting starts the pacifists in him dies and he turns into something no one expected, he becomes one of the biggest heroes of WW1.

The movie is based on the real diary of sergeant Alvin C. York who was by far the most decorated American soldier of World War I. Gary Cooper won the oscar for his role, while the movie was nominated in nine more categories.
