The modern aircraft carrier USS Nimitz sails off Perl Harbor on a training mission. Somewhere in the Pacific the ship encounters a storm-like vortex that disappears just as the ship passes through it. The captain and the crew soon realize that they have traveled back in time, just hours before the Japanese attack Perl Harbor on December 7, 1941. The captain has to make a decision whether he will use the superior carrier to engage the invaders and change history, or to stand by and allow history to proceed as "normal".
